Hair, the summer musical at St-Denis Theatre that celebrates the 60’s and the peace & love movement

The story

It’s 1968: the Vietnam War is raging and the Age of Aquarius is coming. Claude Bukowski, a young farmer in Oklahoma, must leave his ranch to fight in Vietnam. Before joining the army, the future soldier decides to visit New York. There he meets a group of free-spirited hippie activists who are protesting against war, dreaming of a more peaceful, greener, fairer and more beautiful world.

Through infectious rock anthems, they celebrate free love and fight for a better America. But Claude is not convinced and the call of Vietnam is stronger, although he does not know if he will come back alive…

A seminal work of 60s counterculture, HAIR addresses themes that still resonate today, and its message of hope, love and peace remains more relevant than ever. With his adaptation, the director Serge Denoncourt intends to explore with passion, humor and sometimes irony, the values of peace and love, like a historical polaroid.

From Broadway to Tokyo, via Paris, Berlin and Sydney, HAIR has been rocking stages around the world for more than 50 years thanks to, among other things, the immortal choruses of Aquarius and Let the sunshine in. Led by Serge Denoncourt and inspired by flower power, the Quebec version of HAIR risks going down in history.
